I feel like you're contradicting yourself. You mentioned "doing something worthwhile in life"; In this case software. But doing a task well is somewhat of an angry path to take in life and I have no trouble admitting it brings with it some violent emotions -- so I was joking a bit but not entirely.
For me writing software doesn't evoke violent emotions
Writing software is a meditative experience
However talking to people about software (conversation) is like going to battle. It is a violent and unpleasant experience
I have a hard time believing that, but even if true, I've seen how you act when you get invested in something and underperform and you are indeed not outside of norm in that regard. So if you've been mindful at all about yourself you should understand what I'm saying.

Violence isn't just physical. Programmers can be cruel. Anyone can be cruel when they are heavily invested in something. To me that's the price you pay for taking things to that level, so when you talk about "doing something worthwhile" that's my immediate response.
