Yea ok, so this guy saying 'Go READ AN ENTIRE BOOK FOR THIS IDEA THAT REBUTS YOU' versus having the ability to recant it yourself and make the argument on behalf of the author because I'm a fucking mouth breather whose only counter argument is GO READ A BOOK. AND I'M DUMB.

LET ME JUST WASTE YOUR FUCKING TIME. Here huber, big matt, read this and tell me if you still disagree. Only after you've read the entire thing, otherwise your arguments are all void and invalid.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

I agree and probably share your resentment towards people's impotent moralism. But there is political value and power to making a moral and just system because we see ourselves in others. Because we are moral social creatures that value human life, it would literally cost the US power if it decided to genocide a place, for example. That wasn't always the case, but thank goodness we have made the world this way, because if it were the 19th century and we hadn't learned better you'ed be getting lynched and pillaged in California.

And of course the reality of reservations in the US are atrocious. Two wrongs don't make a right, and our lack of attention to one thing doesn't make another thing we are paying attention to any less real.

I didn't say READ THE WHOLE BOOK LOL I was responding to you saying it doesn't say stuff that it does indeed say. Like obviously you can just say fuck off I aint reading a book. But if you are going to say a book or author doesn't address X when they do, then I aint gunna waste any more time than you are.

But I am full of shit because here I am bored at work wasting that time lol

Simple rule: if you aren't cool with being genocided yourself, don't encourage the genocide of others.

I literally have to teach elementary school kids this but instead of genocide it is usually "don't give him a noogie if you don't want a noogie yourself"

Dude you're just sitting here talking shit and judging people for having an opinion, so what do you think should happen? You think Gaza and West Bank should become their own state and get a seat at the UN? You think Egypt and Isreal should lift the blockade on Gaza?

What's your solution? You got a better plan? Because I think people have tried and tried. You cannot say there was a lack of effort. Politicians put their lives down and died for peace like look at Yihak Rabin, that guy literally got assassinated signing the Oslo Accords with Yassar Arafat and then what do the people in Gaza do? They fucking elect Hamas and the REST IS HISTORY. They made it crystal clear that they are not interested in peace. I am an unbiased third party, you can't say I support jews or have a vendetta against arabs or whatever, I literally don't care but at a certain point you try to do the right thing and people aren't cooperating you get frustrated and do it things the hard, painful way and that's what we're seeing now.

I'm so dumb just share your opinion, speak your mind. Don't be shy. Let's see what a not dumb person has to say about the issue or are you just hand waving like omg you guys don't think Isreal bombing Gaza is bad. You're so dumb!!!

He's absolutely right. He's soundly defeated the "read a book" argument

I missed this. It may have been a lie, but yellow peril was still a thing. It's still a thing today. Anglo Americans loved to pillage Chinese communities and entertain the destruction of the increasingly asian California because of fear of Chinese take over. You already know this. Cmon.

"read a book" was always vapid and anti-intellectual. it shuts down discussion

if you have a point to make, make it coherently yourself rather than referring people to some time-waster that they will obviously never do and that, if they did, would pause the discussion for 2 weeks

The only point behind "read a book" was to pretend you're smarter than someone else because you've read the book and they haven't. Most of the time, the people making the argument were just stupid people with poor reading comprehension so it didn't really matter how many books they'd read, they hadn't comprehended and had mostly misinterpreted or warped the author's words to fit their personal ends. It was a false appeal to authority

My plan for Israel Palestine is regime change all three territories.

You're right. But I didn't feel up to the task at the time.

Sometimes when someone is saying shit that is literally centuries behind today's world, it feels like too much work so you just suggest a book.

BigMatt stopped posting so I hope that means he's started on his assignment to learn about how god gave the jews mana and the 10 commandments.

Ok, correction, what realistic plan do you have to suggest?

I agree I'm anti genocide

It's actually interesting you live in japan and I'm about to say read a book but

reading sun and steel really gave me a new view of the dropping of the atom bomb (a debatably "genocidal"/evil act)

it feels to me that a culture can essentially be completely incurable and need a "hard reset" and that is what happened with the WW2 Japanese

It puts into context the evil act

And then I'd say sometimes I wonder that about the Israelis. I see at times a culture so evil and inhuman and wonder how it can ever be repaired except by hard reset.

The interesting thing is that this is essentially the argument to justify genocide (which I am opposed to) and it can be applied by them to the palestinians. It's essentially what ironstove is saying

My only regret about being a mod is that I can't block or ignore certain posters.

@ironstove Your world view is anarchy. You would be the first to die in this world.

@TheOldLegendNumeta You are just crazy. Get a grip on reality.
