Why do most apartments charge "Pet Rent" but not "Child Rent?"

I was to be fair and say that I love my apartment complex, and that this particular policy is nowhere near unique to them. But this pisses me off so much!

I went to the office yesterday. We have had a cat for awhile but really were trying to avoid the fees until the last minute if at all possible. Well we had to turn in a maintenance request, so we figured it was time.

First they want a $100 pet deposit (refundable). Okay, cat COULD do some carpet damage or something.....then they want a $200 pet FEE (non-refundable), but I've heard there are laws that require extra cleaning, pest treatment, etc, after you vacate an apartment. Fine.

But adding $20 to our rent each month?!!? That's where I get furious. (Again, it's not just this complex. When we were apartment hunting, almost every complex we saw had similar policies) My cat weighs like 10 lbs. It is far less disturbing to other residents then the kids running around.

I know that most apartments have max occupancy. But we have a two bedroom for two of us! (Plus kitty) I could legally have 2 more children in this apartment and not have to pay a dime, but my furry friend requires rent!?!?!

I agree

Will i set a bench PR today? Check back in about 10 minutes

Success

She’s right. It’s stupid that the pet fee is the same between cats and dogs.

What should be more?

The one that damages the apartment and uses the Dog stuff the apartment provides.

Maybe if there was a catwalk area and cat park and cat amenities in these apartments I wouldn’t care

Gave furriy gone too far

Do you charge pet rent?

No. Pets are so rare here that there's no ruling against them anywhere anyways.
