I think that the percent chance of all the requiered criteria for intelligent life to develop is significantly lower than people think and is unknowable and people should stop assuming that life is out there. Especially with most stars not being like our own, the unknown chemistry of the rest of the universe, any potentially special things that occured to earth like the moon formation providing minimal amounts of illumination at night, and so on. The list of things that have to go correctly and stay correct are immeasurably long. What if photosynthesis just never evolved? How many different planets had single celluar life and never rolled photosynthesis? How mant did but lost another dice roll? Its unknowable, and the chances are almost certainly incredibly lower than the average person assumes
A few trillion planets is not that big a size when chances for things that need to happen can most probably easily approach 1 in a couple billion, multiplied by everything else that also has to go right and stay right for (4 billion) years
Anyways my life would be probably much happier and demons wouldnt haunt my dreams if i could just believe in aliens
