While I do agree that gender dysphoria is a serious condition and that Alightsoul is attention seeking - I think it's in bad faith to deny it being a culture-bound syndrome.
This doesn't mean much though - as Depression was classified as a culture bound syndrome too before larger scale globalization.
Read this quote for reference:

Homosexuality is a lot more common in eastern cultures than Gender Dysphoria, it's simply been in our culture for a lot longer - and it's not just "they're too afraid to come out as trans", there really are just less of them.
Maybe you could even make the argument that white people are more genetically predisposed to gender dysphoria, but that's another story.
Something being "social" in nature is not necessarily a bad thing, and it doesn't make it less real or important in any way.
Education is a "social contagion", same with language itself.
