aliens were real all along thread

it's nothin (it's nothin)

You, a sentient rock, is using a magic wireless device. Really think about everything that led to that and tell me if it really even seems possible

Something aint right

You don't get it.
The chance of life evolving on a planet is way better than 1 in 400 billion.

What about multi cellular? What is the chance that life becomes intelligent life like dolphins, unable to build anything. What % develops consciousness?

These probabilities multiply

we don't know the answers yet, and that's the whole point

it could ABSOLUTELY be within the parameters that make life not only possible, but highly likely

once we get better telescopes that can actually see what the fuck is going on on distant planets, and not just their vague outline from the reflection of their sun (that we can also hardly see) we'll have a better idea

i do appreciate the explanation of 52! though, it's fascinating how big numbers can get

It takes a series of relatively high probabilities to create something with an incomprehensibly rare possibility of happening (human life?)

True, true. Good point.
There might be life on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, but they might just be bugs.

i do (kinda) get what jdance is saying though?

we think of probabilities in human terms using human numbers that we can both comprehend and apply to our own world

but when you truly consider how big numbers can get, ALL of those probabilities, even 1 in 400b, could be laughably high* compared to the ACTUAL statistical realities of things spontaneously happening in the real universe.

like if the average scale of numbers would be the entire earth, the paramaters we work within would just be a grain of sand. and we think that grain of sand is the whole earth.

am I about right @BIGMATTHEW ?

oh no we have no known way a lifeform without digits could interface with machinery guess there's just no way it's possible because we don't know

@electrowizard

Anyway everything everywhere all at once basically says that anything that can happen, does, in some universe. So really if parallel universes exist then the chance at the top level is 100%

Parallel universes are a gay cop out answer though

can you answer my question dude? i'm not trying to argue I'm just trying to make sure I understand what your argument is

because if that's what you're saying, it would be fair. i get that

Im driving it is difficult

oh no worries, don't crash your car dude

in one of those parallel universes does jdance have an imagination?

My argument is basically that the chances could be extremely low for life to exist, like lower than the reciprocal of the amount of atoms in the universe

If that is true, then its probably more likely for there to be an easier explanation for our existence. (Parallel universes, simulation, etc)
