the answer is yes I suppose, it's not really geographical it's just a matter of are you a citizen of X country and if so you should be given priority to attend the countries education system over people who are not from the country

if you're going to invest in expensive universities you want them to benefit your kids

like where I live there are people literally from China, (NOT Canadian citizens, many have never even been here and buy the properties remotely) who are members of the CCP using our real estate to hide their wealth

they literally buy the houses, wait, dont live in them, sometimes rent them out at exorbidant prices (that the locals have to pay if they want housing i guess) and then resell the house 5 years later

UBC (our best university) is literally nicknamed the university of beautiful cars because of all the rich asian foreign exhange students and their stupid $200,000 cars daddy bought them with CCP money

we have this great university that local kids can't even afford to attend, it's basically a money printing factory at this point. it's not about education at all it's about just making as much profit as possible from the infinite supply of rich foreign parents who will pay anything for their kid to get a good education
