has anyone read the Lars Kepler Swedish crime novels?
Absolutely brilliant, I adore those books
The main character is an awkward but extremely smart Finnish detective who lives in Stockholm, and it features probably the coolest and most chilling villains ever
friendo recommended robert heinlein just finished the moon is a harsh mistress starting starship troopers
starship troopers is basically just an unironic version of the movie and vaguely pro fascist but I don’t really remember
crushed it in 2 days. definitely fascist in the organization of government but in an interesting way that only those willing to sacrifice possibly everything are enfranchised with a vote. kind of like a proto 40k style look on the future where moral issues are based around survival instinct. definitely much more nuanced than the film and a lot of it resonated with me on a personal level
yeah they’re both great in different ways
you’d probably like The Expanse if you haven’t seen it
books are supposed to be excellent as well
rereading dune book is a lot better than i remember. for some reason i remembered as tolkien esque but it's not dry at all

The complexity behind the scenes is amazing.
There are so many powers interacting.
The trader's guild, the great houses, the spice, the mentats, the witches, the fremen, everything.
I didn't even get it all until I read it a second time.
Fremen is my favorite. Bene gesserit is my second favorite but I have a feeling that's going to change. I definitely get why you have a problem with the film casting now though. Josh brolin as gurney halleck doesn't really fit lol.
complex but not nuanced. kinetic fighting especially is kind of hard to envision. movie still looks like generic doodoo ass with a sprinkle of introspection and religious overtone
like homeboy just says shields and lasguns don't mix but doesn't even expand on how shields block kinetic weapons
you know it's a shield so it just stops ordinance flying at supersonic speed but hit it with some light and suddenly explosion
like how does the personal shield block a sword or shrapnel blow but not knock your chair out from under you when you try to sit in it?
