what are your thoughts on Shinto?
The mythology is fun to read. Today, it really just seems to be a lot of superstituous rituals in practice though. And barely anyone really identifies as a Shintoist other than the priests probably. People just do their superstitious shit like getting fortunes at shrines and donating a dollar for good fortune. I don't think anyone believes what they are doing really works or anything. It is just fun to do. It is charming. I spent a new years at a shrine once and the priests were chill. It is hard to say what doctrine or coherent belief system there could be in reality for Shinto. Even the true believer priests pretty much just exist to allow people to do their superstitions and fuel tourism.
Now if we try to define Shinto as it existed pre-1945, it was obviously dog shit. Inherently theocratic dogshit.
