I feel like they are trying to present it as if itâs replacing gun violence but if they were in a real area with gun violence if they roll up on someone with paintball pretending itâs a driveby they would just get shot with real guns
Also read through the insulin article and I feel that it is not an argument in favor of socialized medicine - the problem is caused by the poor implementation of half-assed socialized medicine we have right now
It shows clearly three issues which are all endorsed by well-meaning idiots without thinking about how it will be abused:
- insurance companies getting lower prices for a drug. Sticker prices are driven up to extortionate rates by policies that allow insurance companies to pay a discounted price, resulting in people w/o insurance or with bad insurance paying much more
- price collusion between drug companies, insurance companies, and hospitals. There is no incentive to keep prices down and every incentive to drive prices up for all involved. That money is reinvested into the system in order to continue making things more expensive and build a massive bloated industry that can lobby to keep itself in business
- ârebatesâ - the government or the drug company basically pays the insurance company and the insurance company pretends âthose savings are being transferred to the customerâ (read: we fuck you in the ass and lie about it)
All 3 of these are clearly brought up as contributing factors but none given the actual time and weight they deserve in exposing this colluding, rotten industry. Socialized medicine doesnât magically fix this it just creates more opportunity for these people to fuck you in the ass and lie about it under the guise of arbitrary complexity or government regulation or whatever else dumb trick they can come up with

Lastly, I will posit the earnest and probably unpopular opinion that Jeff Bezos has done much to benefit the world as an ultra-capitalist even if he does nothing at all kind or beneficial with the money he has made (which is probably not the case - I do not know much about jeff bezos philanthropy but these people typically get pretty into that stuff later in life)
The very act of creating a big, booming successful business and making lots of money is bettering the world
You can complain about him treating his employees badly or paying people like shit and youâd be right but that doesnât change the fact that he created technology that made the world more efficient (aka better) and also created technology called aws so that I would have the standing to talk down to ethan jones daily
Jeff Bezos often will lobby to reject tax measures to help a cause (homeless crisis for example) and then donate some paltry sum to the city instead

Not really. Thatâs just him trying to make more money and cover his PR at the same time.
Jeff bezos didnât do really anything tech related, he did however hire the right people from Akamai to create AWS
heâs also donating dick to that poor ugly plastic surgery tv presenter woman (redistributed from his beautiful and smart wife who clearly has much more opportunity to find dick in the outside world)

Philanthropy is a great way to dodge taxes and also u can donate to your own charities to just re-route the money back to yourself/own assets
