What prep do I need to do. Iā€™ve my character and backstory ready, but I donā€™t know SHIT about the numbers. It says I need to roll for everything or pick from default numbers? Is that how weā€™re doin it

I can help you with character creation. Iā€™ll probably make a roll20 game for now to have a central place for character sheets. Or DND beyond if I can get my friend to hook me up.

Point buy or rolling is what I normally do. Point buy is a 27 point system. Rolling you do 4d6 drop the lowest number 6 times. You can place those values in any stat.

Whatā€™s the guidelines for making a character? Are we in a fantasy universe with elves and orcs or is it more realistic

Going to be in the forgotten realms. So itā€™s fantasy. All races from published wotc are fine. Orcs/elves/dwarves/gnomes etc plenty others.

How does this look for character creation?

I was abandoned by my parents. They left me in the woods. An old hedge wizard found me and took me in. He raised me with the help of a woman in the nearest town named Amaranth. He treated me well, and taught me to find useful plants and other things useful in magic potions.

One day I returned from my travels to find that he had been bitten by a poisonous spider. He knew the antidote, but he didnā€™t have the items he needed. I ran to the town to get the items, but by the time I returned, he was dead.

I buried him, gathered up his spell books and components, and set out to find a new life.
