No, I responded to your point. It is nontrivial. Your example of war is still wrong. Enemy combatants are otherized in war. And if they end up in your society, they are completely deprived of socio-economic and socio-political power. See the Japanese in America in WWII. Or, better yet, the most famous example is the otherization of the Muslim. After 9/11, the Muslim Other in America was absolutely marginalized and placed at the edge of the socius. They still are, to an extent, but not as bad. Fuck, one of the canonical books on this subject is all about that: Orientalism by Said.
The point of the creation of the Other through war is to have a subaltern within your society that the non-Other can rally against and push against, uniting them in a struggle to exterminate the Other. It's a classic political strategy: get a war going and everyone's gonna be all patriotic for a bit and support you because those goddamn brown people need to die
