well, i dont think anybody can actually eliminate the ego.
but what people tend to do is idolize their own Self as sacred. so people are averse to changing their own values and ideas because they are part of the Self. and when people attack the Self, its like they are physically hurting you so the response is typically not good.
to deprogram this one must internalize that criticism is either helpful or irrelevant. sometimes tactically you need to respond swiftly and aggressively to quash criticism or else you may lose social standing, but thats just pragmatism; there is no reason to be mad. so when one is accused of sexism, they should just consider seriously if they are in fact sexist. either they can improve, or there is nothing lost.
