it was hilarious watching the trumpers dress him up for saving a tank factory when neither the army or marines want any more mbts

I don't do it but there's also management/dealing with irrigation systems which are constantly breaking and are a complete pain in the ass.

didnt you post a chart about the number of aircraft carriers

yea we got 11

please: we can at least give tanks to ukraine

the navy is where the money gets flushed down the drain.

shit changes faster than humans are calibrated for nowadays. most equipment in a conflict nowadays is going to be outdated technologically and sometimes even doctrinally

no doubt but it's always been our real strength even way back. shit we didn't even have a standing army back in the day outside of career officers

at least you can learn some good skills in the navy but the life on those ships has got to be hellish at least i've been told. i shit on the chair force a lot but faceless void made a good choice there. you can learn some valuable skills and you get air conditioning

also living inside your weapon system and if it's destroyed being stranded in the big blue is pretty terrifying. i probably have thalassaphobia but there's a good reason those carrier groups are intense in reacting to anyone buzzing them

they're just enormous pinatas at this point

if you want to fight somalian pirates or bully iran, whatever, but they're just unusable beyond that.

that's how it's been since ww2 we just developed and trained better damage control teams and aa protocols. it's easy to see how human beings were sentimental about surface capital ships when you've seen a battleship up close. good metaphor for facism and illusion of power

no, it's far worse than WWII. global real-time SAR has made them just floating death traps.

i meant surface capitol ships in general. it was the battleship then that was outdated now it's carriers and they're mostly outdated

i never got too interested in naval warfare history probably partly because im not a sailor at heart at all but also you can't really hide anything except with weather and a lot of it is just defaulted by who has more numbers (ships/men) and better equipment (radar/sonar/firecontrol)

no, this is entirely different level. there are private companeis capable of scanning entire sections of oceans for illegal fishing from fishing trawlers.

you could say something similar about war in general but it's usually more obvious and blatant who is winning or losing and the losing side has almost no reason to fight at all on the water

yea i get that but like i said humans can't adapt as fast as technology advances so a lot of doctrine and power projection is going to be warped

the water everywhere is basically a constant statistical distribution so SAR is 100x easier: no outlier refractions, reflections, etc.
