I wasn't thinking about esports at all in what I was saying - didn't even cross my mind
I was talking about the tone of the average, middle-of-the-road player/game. Or just games in general. The vast majority of the world isn't playing tournaments and making money. They just play games to pass time.
But modern games/gaming world that caters to adults is designed not to actually have a fun time but to sublimate the desire to have a successful, productive life (usually via career, social circle etc). Every game is Job Simulator now.
My post had nothing to do with people who made an ACTUAL job out of video games
It was about the change in tone of the AVERAGE player (who does NOT have a job playing video games) from games being about doing funny shit and having a good time to games being about winning your lane, buying the item, and never saying the N-word
