except i never even really liked you much, i just attached your name to the team USA squad that beat Ukraine because still to this day i remember watching that game. it was like the canucks had won the cup, but for dota
Some good lore there, that team USA squad was dope as hell.
But it's kinda hard for me to feel sympathetic about all the cliquey asshole shit that goes on in dota and gaming in general. There's always this weird shit where you have people come along that desperately want X player to like them and be friends with them and it can be pretty off-putting.
It's kinda funny how Bulba's name constantly comes up regarding this gate-keeping behavior and I think I've seen over half a dozen posts similar to yours over the years talking about what an asshole he is lol
I agree, I'm sure my behaviour was off putting as hell. A simple "fuck off" would have sufficed, instead of tricking me and then bullying me, but whatevs.
bulba is a fucking joke and there's a reason why he's pretty much exclusively coaching now
watching him lane against ferrari at TI2 and then EG switching to like a dual lane with cm mid or whatever it was because he got fucked so badly was pathetic lol
I remember when US east leaderboards came out seeing myself at position 44 (not a big achievement in the lowest pop server and only tracked if you played 13 pugs/month) I figured I'd try my hand at finding a team as a support. My experience was most people who had both the skill/drive to compete and put the hours in either came off as incredibly arrogant or extremely lacking in social skills/team cohesion.
If you were the new kid on the block you were routinely subjected to inane criticism and in general were treated as the whipping boy. Inhouses usually ended the same way although less vitriol because of lower stakes but unless you were a known quantity any input or ideas you had were rarely heard if not mocked outright.
I definitely met some chill people that I'm glad to have spent time gaming with but the majority of interaction I had with the competetive scene was soured by horrible personalities (running into EternalEnvy on my team in MM was a particular standout). I'm a little sad I never went to a TI and met some of you but with all this shit going on a part of me is relieved I never let myself be near some of these degenerates.
This also sticks out to me - where did you get the idea that he had different expectations from the lan?
That reads to me like you don’t understand/remember/didn’t read what was actually going on at the time and just posted bullshit about it instead?
