Mountainous sucks because it only relies on "reads" and vote history.
I personally suck at reads most of the time, even more so with strangers.
On the other hand, I have solved games based on vote history.
Neither would help me in the game.
"Reading" the game is the soul of mafia -- without it it's just a rudimentary logic game. Just because you and many others have abandoned it doesn't make it obsolete or a less complex approach to the game; in fact I'd argue the opposite.

One can absolutely solve a game entirely on reads alone. The players would have to respond to situations immaculately for this to not be the case, and then you've reached a skill level where it does devolve into voting patterns and luck.

THE MAFIA CHAMPIONSHIP - SEASON 10
Hi there.
The 10th annual Mafia Championship will very soon kick off.
The first game will begin April 24 . I hope you will be there - as a player or spectator. We have over 1200 people who will be spectating the Championship on Discord.
The plan is for this season to feature 135 communities .
