Sleep drugs eat holes in your brain, it tricks you into thinking you're getting real sleep but you don't actually hit REM/brain doesnt recover as it's supposed to. They've done a lot of studies around worse mental performance/weaker memory etc in people who take these drugs
some people are just built different and legit only need to sleep 5 hours a night
some of them do yeah. they're all pretty crappy. sometimes I take zopiclone, which is like stronger than ambien, and xanax (not together, one or the other because they 're different classes of drugs I can alternate between them for max. potency). but I don't take them often, that's the key. only a few times a month when I really really just need to pass the fuck out.
being awake too long is far worse than the side effects of those drugs, trust me.
i wouldn't recommend taking them unless it's like an emergency, which in his case it is, so it's fine. imo
funnily enough, the over the counter sleep aids you can get like Sleep Eze that are usually blue gel pills of either dimenhidrinate or diphenhydramine are BOTH worse for your brain than either of the aforementioned drugs. it's wild.

Doctors in these sort of places tend to do a lot of catastrophizing. It's literally their job they are trained for it

My mom had “insomnia” but to be real with you I think she just was on some like staying up her bed time type shit and was just awake because she wanted to be awake
I have difficulty sleeping occasionally
I told them specifically i do not want long term medication because i believe that natural sleep is the only healthy sleep. Ill take it for a few days here
