My walnut brain can't figure it out.

depends on the map entirely. on hybrid maps it's important early for securing fish and denying opposing fish but it loses relevance quickly. no one plays pure water maps anymore except for weird tournaments

there are so many hilarious photos of my man Sidney Crosby attempting and failing to have human emotions. I love the dude forever but he's such a robot lol, not as much these days

my favorite map Nomad (you start with 3 vills no tc) you usually see all players dock but only 1 builds warships because if you overinvest on water you just get rolled by knights and siege once castle age hits and youre behind

The worst change valve ever made was nerfing the sticky jumper and ullapool caber in tf2

It was a loadout that was less than minimally effective - a complete joke - but also extremely fun to play, funny to witness, and had one of the highest skill caps in the game. They nerfed it to decrease the skill cap and be completely useless in that one specific capacity (meanwhile anywhere else caber is still pretty dumb and has to be perma banned in comp)

I think what happened there was there was like 1 or 2 people on the TF2 team (not very good/longtime players - probably a woman or effeminate man) and nobody else in the company really cared what happened with tf2 any more. So they made some half-assed attempt at balancing the game, found that metrics didn't show improvement in the direction they wanted, and abandoned it. While actually what happened was their changes basically killed what was left of the game & its community.

Yo this summarizes it perfectly. Because the game has been balanced to make team play significantly stronger than solo play, it subsequently makes it more punishing when you don't engage in team play and go solo which is why the game feels different and I hate it. Trying to be a leader and dig deep to be mature and suck up other people's emotional baggage to calm them down and cooperate when I do it enough working is like complete shit because the juice ain't worth the squeeze. But that the consequence of living in this Era where everything is censored and you can get banned for flaming and acting toxic. Better community but shit teir game.

I miss the days when I could just join pubs and slap people around solo carrying a game when shit clicked even in the same MMR, but now there's so much purchasable disable, damage is quick, comeback gold/xp skews the risk/reward so it favors teamwork so you end up in this situation where the meta is to find a way to get a group of strangers to cooperate and team up to win the game way more than it used to in the past.

Like I said, it's just so easy for a support to come in and stop you and then immediately jump back to their team so nobody ends up trying to make plays and it's this slow, agonizing game of attrition where people try to take territory over the river a bit at a time.

This speaks volumes because people are fucking tired of people in business suits figuring out how to fuck up a good product to make more short term profit, like if chess was legally IP owned by one company and bought out, I guarantee you they'd be mutating that shit to some monstrosity to shake things up and try to boost sales at the first sign of a drop in users/sales.

New pieces, battlepass, cosmetics, and fucking nerfing pieces like limiting queen max squares, or buffing them to let bishop attack through units, and eventually it looks the same but it's a completely different game, not better or worse, just fucking different and the old version can't be found anywhere because it is IP, so people who loved the older iterations have nothing to enjoy.

Yeah. My biggest problem was my inability to NOT care about pubs. It's just so emotionaly draining to be the only one trying to play the game, make suggestions, organize smokes, etc with people who just sit there not responding even though they speak english like fucking npcs

like there is literally zero going on in their head all their focus is on clicking their four spells and looking at their lane

but for as shitty as that is that's what makes organized team dota so beautiful. to have a team who all get along, comm well, work on draft and strategy, and have it all come together in a meaningful game is just fucking incredible. its a shame there's no way to translate this feeling to pubs

"hey i have no more slot for gem can someone take it"

no response

"hey so and so you have this useless item here can you move it and take gem?"

no response

it just gets to me after a while

the advice I always got was just "oh dont care so much" but like I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO stop caring just to enjoy the game's more casual format
