they probably had features that were cut to ânot develop another skinnerware game!â while simultaneously having the gameâs market be designed by a big 4 consulting firm.

The place is run like a school yard without adult supervision.
Bullies and loud people get the attention and rewards
Thereâs a definite, though unspoken pecking order.
Several cliques. If youâre not in the right clique, you wonât have a good experience
You can be fired out of the blue without warning, even if youâre worked there successfully for years.
They donât make games any more.
You could work on developing a project for years and just have it dropped for no good reason other than one of the self appointed leaders decided he wasnât interested anymore.
They sell you a real bill of goods coming in, that youâll have all the freedom in the world to do what you want , work on things that interest you and that they just want a lot of highly creative people to make great things. But after a short time there you start to see how the sausage is made and what you were told was an exaggeration at best
Advice to Management
Itâs such a poison place that I donât have any advice for them really. Make games again. Get the nerd bullies in line or get rid of them and get back to what made Valve great in the past. Right now it feels like itâs circling the drain. But the higher ups there donât really care because theyâre all rich. I know I sound bitter and I am, but this is my experience there. Some people do well there, but many find the backstabbing nature of the company very stressful and disturbing.

I just spent 30 seconds figuring out how to trade your cards.

but this is still exploitable.
The developer on Twitter was probably the best source I have read so far but he was always kind of non specific and some of his stuff was clearly talking about a different company
Keep in mind all this stuff is years old too by the time it gets to us and itâs entirely possible they have been taking a close look and resolving some of those problems (for example, the bonus structure was changed by the time the last complaint about bonuses being dumb went public) - plus, they do make games again. They released a game
Regardless I think Valve are dumb for other reasons but compared to some other modern big multiplayer game making companies theyâre among the better ones
