This is just ethnic cope: it's some fake statistic that allows the losers to be winners. It's no different than the Chinese scholars who claim that the Pyramids were built by Napoleon and that Ancient Greece was actually around 1400AD. The "sustainability" of these countries is no different than the assessed "sustainability" of me living in my mom's basement. Their "development' is paid for by the coffers of larger nations who have paid the investment burden in agricultural and technological research.
