i had this boss once after i transferred to a new team that was like highest on the social totem pole at the office and was always focused on trying to garner mutual respect and trust. I was one of those sheeple who believed that was enough.
in the process of leading the project he completely neglected what the team what we wanted and thought and was terrible at having us work optimally and be happy for it. he was terrible at representing us to higher ups because he was so focused on being trusted and respected. that entire project crashed and burned as a result. really messed with my head. fuck bad leadership

well yea your boss wanted your respect and that of his boss' but he didn't respect you guys or your goals. that's no leader that's just a boss only interested in his own gains. sadly happens a lot especially more when it's a bloated company
psychology of the modern workplace is crazy
he didnt and youre right about the mutual respect part but people are easily deceived, he was so personable and calculated. company was bloated tho you right.

i mean i got a feeling its been like this for a long time. maybe a side effect of rampant capitalism, but that's impossible to fix for publicly traded companies. that stuff is all about trimming fat

yea for recent history but some societies still have a bit of a caste system. in older times some people were never allowed to elevate their status or be promoted (slaves/serfs) and sometimes even if they did make money they could never buy social status
good executioners were paid very well but no one ever shook their hand
