ww3 lets fucking go you nerds. jdance and yns gonna be weeping when their portfolios zero out
fair fair
does anyone think ww3 isnt gonna be sparked by some combination of the middle east / india / china / russia
part of why i personally think the whole japanese textbook issue is overstated is due to how irrelevant japan feels because i dont sense they actually have that many pro-imperialists left
whereas china and russia still have giant chips on their shoulders and the actual most imperialist intentions
yes but studying japan's suicidal mission is part of why i find it so intriguing. even in achieving victory terrific sacrifices would have to be made, which would be at least as bad as total war ww3
but yea probably india/russia/china
russia is kind of a glass jaw india could contend with china if it gets it shit together
have you seen a video about their plans for defending operation downfall?
thousands of people whose job was to be underwater frog men suicide bombers carrying mines
you don't have to read about theoretical scenarios. forget what godforsaken attol it was but the japanese bunkered immediately after shelling. shelling continued for 4 days and the marines who landed still fought through resistance and found the japanese had left all their food and water in haste to escape the barrage. still fighting after 4 days in bunkers layered with their comrades bodies
yeah it’s really mind blowing how bravely they fought
maybe. still harder to go on existing and fighting than just dying
1882 Japanese Imperial Rescript to Soldiers and Sailors, which states that "duty is heavier than a mountain; death is lighter than a feather."
speaks more to their brainwashing and ineptitude/overconfidence of their officers
very cool I hadn’t heard that before
I think the soldiers who held onto those islands were pretty brave tbh, but yes there was certainly brainwashing too
there is bravery in continuing to fight when you cannot win. there's also idiocy and a lack of forethought in deployment. when you run out of water/food/medicine/ammunition it doesn't really matter how brave you are
their plan was to conscript 10,000s of covilians, give them basic flying lessons to be kamalazes, giving weapons to basically every citizen, many of them not guns, using underwater suicide bombers on landing crafts, all while sneaking plague bombs into the west coast and firing them at SF.
not really any commentary on it just beyond how insane it would have been if downfall went down
im sure theres a different universe where the Allies are basically forced to genocide all of Japan
japan was more afraid of the soviet union than atomic bombs. they hated communism even more than the nazis. the firebombings of tokyo killed more civilians than both bombs combined
once the soviet union was coming for those cheeks it was over
