I remembered that Andrew Sullivan had basically put forth the same arguments in the 90s.
Gay marriage also places more responsibilities upon gays: It says for the first time that gay relationships are not better or worse than straight relationships, and that the same is expected of them.
Like straight marriage, it would foster social cohesion, emotional security, and economic prudence.
It would also, in the wake of AIDS, qualify as a genuine public health measure. Those conservatives who deplore promiscuity among some homosexuals should be among the first to support it.

This thread does raise an interesting question: if GAYS are DEGENERATE FREAKS as a result of HATE, why do these "OUTBREAKS" concentrate where there is LITTLE TO NO GAY STIGMA?

0 credit for this sort of thing. It's always the same pattern - years of being wrong, being obnoxious toward people who are right, writing lots of unbearably smug opinion columns. Arrive late to whatever realization was needed, present a "moderate" view of truth from a "moderate's" perspective (aka still wrong, late, still smug, & stole credit for others' work) community of ■■■■■■■■ readers treats them as profound & renegade opinion-havers for it.
People who are wrong as a personality trait can't stop being wrong by starting to talk about the right things/have some right opinions. Being wrong for them is like an addiction - they slip back into it as soon as the guard is dropped. Even the article with the "right" topic will have random idiotic assumptions leading to wrong conclusions treated as obvious fact, "concessions" based on basic misunderstanding of the topic, and so on.
Best part is these people basically don't exist if you ignore twitter. Best to just block and not allow their thoughts to pollute the mind further.

Andrew Sullivan is the reason gay marriage exists: he put forth the "conservative argument" that swayed non-marxoids (who were intent on destroying marriage, the nuclear family, whatever) into normalizing it. Both parties got what they wanted: gays can now get meaninglessly married.
