I didn't mean to talk about specifically you, but I think most people don't make proper use of being self occupied. You might've made somewhat good use of it and liked the outcome, but would you have been able to survive in the deep end if one day in the past you were thrown into it? I think the scenario where you're given structure prepares you much better. By the way, have you heard of Montessori schools?

i don't know a lot about it but just reading about it, it seems like a weirdly bureaucratic system and needlessly cruel.
every other country just provides money to people to buy food, shelter, clothing etc... you go in to an income support office and they assess your eligibility based on income and then you meet with a case worker and apply. they have case plan services and offer support budgeting and can even send rent directly to the landlord if you can't manage your money. seems like a more practical system.
