yeah that’s fair
the long march is still some badass shit tho
I don't know if that is fair. It's not like their opponents didn't also utilize crucial alliances. That is just war lol
Mao Zedong was an absolute failure as a political leader. He was clueless and morally bankrupt as a statesman. He just wanted to LARP as a philosopher king. I am no Mao fan. But the guy did win a hard civil war as a military leader.
i wonder what things would be like if the KMT had won
shit just realized dan carlin has a new series on imperial japan, definitely gonna give it a listen to maybe gain some personalized background
i think mao is a really good politician like how donald trump is a really good politician. if you win, you win, right? he pwns his rivals even in light of extreme policy failures. ability to stay in power is under my model the purest essence of the politician, so he seems to have come out on top from that perspective.
that being said his policies obviously caused huge disasters. bad economics. but one wouldnt expect someone of his background to have good economics.
Anyone got any literary recommendations? i'm not a fan of most memoirs although compilations can be good
I've read
Stumbling Colossus
Colossus Reborn
To the Gates of/Armageddon in Stalingrad
Japan at War: An Oral History
Currently reading Hirohito's War
Two Koreas by Dan Oberdorfer. 20th century Korean history. It is one of the best history books I have read, easily. Not only for understanding Korea, but for understanding how international affairs have functioned in general.
thanks it's in the mail
big fan so far
can i comment on how ridiculous Oberdorfer is as a name? might be poor taste
any good book recommendations on imperial japan? specifically 1800-1940s imperial japan
