The perspective of europeans being more advanced and socially aware so they should have been humanitarian just isn't how human beings worked in the past. Maybe we're evolving now but there are still deadly conflicts raging in ukraine, ethiopia, sudan and a focus in them is ethnic or ideological cleansing
