Yellow Submarine

They're fighting isis splinter cells now so good for them

I hate that mentioning Afghanistan in response to the idea that stopping all aid is automatically a good idea has led to a derailment of the main point but it is what it is

It was just about the worst example you could give as a counter point of stopping all aid

I don’t believe that cold turkey stopping aid to Afghanistan was A Good Idea but hey gj derailing

So like.. what exactly did you mean by this because I took it as an example of how stopping aid to countries is bad, and the specific example you chose was the occupation of Afghanistan by US forces for 20 years as if having a military presence inside of Afghanistan was somehow international aid

This is the start
I disagree
Military aid is foreign aid and unless something has changed since the Cold War is our main export
Pulling out of Afghanistan was not A Good Idea
Removing foreign aid from Africa/SA/wherever would likewise not be A Good Idea

The US apologizing for destabilizing the Middle East for decades and then just saying bye is not A Good Idea

Europe apologizing for centuries of imperialistic atrocities and then saying bye is not A Good Idea

As an aside did u see this Supreme Court ruling xd

I disagree, pulling out Afghanistan was the best idea we’ve had in 20 years

What can the nation do when the us gov sells water to the Middle East xd

You say this right after saying the US pulling out of Afghanistan was a bad idea, as if the US invading Afghanistan and removing the Taliban from power was not part of “destabilizing the Middle East for decades”

You are equating two separate things

 afghanistan is not the middle east

So we have a debt to Afghanistan to prop up a puppet government in perpetuity because we decided to invade them 20 years ago? Should we have never left? Because I guarantee as soon as we left it doesn’t matter if it’s 20 more years, 50 more years, some group of people would’ve came in and removed whatever government we left in power

There’s some space between cold turkey extricating ourselves from the situation and propping up a gov in perpetuity that is the right course of action

In the translated words of one civilian "You guys should kill all the pashtuns or just leave"

Delaying the inevitable, there’s no middle ground where we leave Afghanistan and some liberal democracy is left behind and the people of Afghanistan enjoy the same liberal freedoms we do in the west. They are functionally as a culture and people far more conservative and have no interest in modeling their country after America. The minute we dial back troop numbers, the Taliban is there taking control from where we left, it’s not like we just gradually dwindle down troop numbers and what we created is somehow solidified in Afghanistan.

If your idea of international aid is military operations across the globe resulting in uneasy peacekeeping because the people of the country are trying to kill US soldiers instead of each other I don’t know what to tell you

I could rephrase this paragraph to address your initial point of removing all aid being A Good Thing cuz some of those bad things were so long ago and (white) people shouldn’t have to be held accountable for the sins of their fathers but can’t be bothered
