Anti Trumpism general

A big maybe

Compared to Trump? No it's not...

Nah, I'd argue worse

Explain yourself. You constantly rant about Obama and his war crimes but you're silent on the (REPUBLICAN) admin that came before him, the one that was far, far worse, committed far more war crimes, and fabricated evidence at a UN meeting which was used as justification to invade the middle east

There is not a significant enough difference

I totally disagree. There's a huge difference between another four years of Trump and a Biden presidency. Massive, massive difference.

Lmao and capitalist bullshit isn't?

This is whattaboutism

No, my stance has always been that it's a useless distraction because nothing will come of it.

What? The fact they're corrupt traitors undermining your own country in the interests of PUTIN'S RUSSIA doesn't matter to you because you don't think they'll be punished for it? How does that factor into you being indifferent on them staying in power vs. a new administration?

And pointing this out to the media is a WASTE OF TIME? It's a fucking massive deal..

The whole "Hillaries emails lock her up" etc. hack/leak WAS ORCHESTRATED BY THE KREMLIN, AND PROBABLY WON TRUMP THE ELECTION

It's not fucking nothing dude

Not voting is the right strategy to move policy, yet after many cycles of not voting the policies are still reprehensible and even to the right of Trump in some cases? Idk doesn't quite add up. I don't think withholding votes is at all effective at moving policy. Primary campaigning and voting seems to be the most effective way and that is over.

And yes I know you don't literally never vote I am just referring to the presidential general.

The danger of hyping up the Russia voting interference and allowing it to become something politicians can campaign on is that it gives them power to use that interference to rationalize an illiberal intervention against Russia. Election interference is real and should be taken care of in the boring way during congressional committees or whatever, not on a politician's campaign stump.

I don't understand what you mean by this

Further sanctions against Russia, putting more military pressure on their borders, Syria conflicts, etc. Not only are they unethical on their own merits, but if you really dislike Putin's regime, these things only seem to make him more popular anyway.

The dems definitely tried to do a rally-round-the-flag against Russia. I am glad that it didn't work on a significant amount of people.

You disagree with sanctions against Russia? Why?

Oh dear. Yeah sanctions are bad. I'll type more about it when I have the energy/time.

Please do

something something reference imperial japan and the sanctions levied against it?

The funny thing about looking into sanctions is countless state studies about them are all like "hmmm the impact is unclear!" and then congress is like "hmmm do sanctions even work?" yet they insist on doing them for political posturing anyway.

One thing is fairly certain: sanctions on Russia hurt their economy. It is of course difficult to know how much of an economic shrink is due to sanctions vs other causes, but it certainly to a degree hurts their economy. So then the regime gets to use them as a scapegoat and position themselves as the strongman leaders standing up for Russians against the US and their sanctions. So all congress did was make the lives of Russians worse and give Putin a scapegoat.

This is just a surface layer reason to be skeptical or oppose sanctions. Whether or not sanctions are ethical at all is another can of worms that I don't have the energy for right now.

i was gonna say that lol

this is just really poor reasoning lol

no, RUSSIA made the lives of Russians worse by doing shit like annexing crimea

maybe they could just, ya know, NOT invade the Ukraine, and NOT commit atrocities in Syria

I mean, yeah, but that isn't how politics works. Politics is about perceived reality, not reality.

And aint it weird how Russia keeps doing these terrible things despite our sanctions ;/ real effective.

there are so many ways for Russian politicians and state TV to present themselves as anti-western strongmen, they don’t need sanctions.

what’s the alternative?

You're hired. You start as political advisor to Putin this Monday.

they have nukes, this is why exactly why nukes are bad for the world by the way. countries like Russia and China can get away with far more shit
