i think in a system that's (unfortunately) two party it is.
elections are largely determined by partisan turnout more than anything.

The actual left leaning democrats & activists have been pretty successful in shifting the party towards actual progressive goals to the point where the centrists have to acknowledge them, but ultimately I think I agree in that there's no reason to believe a candidate like Biden is doing anything except pandering to that audience to get elected and at some point this cycle of "lesser evil" has to be broken.
However if I lived in a swing state I might feel some level of guilt should Trump collect our electoral votes on account of my inaction.
