as a quick aside, i think the NC and iowa senate campaigns are good choices to donate to if you are interested in flipping the senate.
That's what I find most disturbing about them, like even when the pendulum is clearly shifting in a new direction these fucking boomers still keep propping up twats like Biden after they already lost one election backing HillBill
like fucking christ why can't the DNC select candidates that have clear roadmaps / visions to build shit (not walls) instead of ones that shift and react depending on whatever the fuck their focus groups / polls dictate their message should be
i think they look at voting statistics by age and their takeaway isn't 'we dont have candidates that appeal to younger people' but instead their take away is 'young people never vote' so they decide to pander to boomers.
and i mean tbf while i think they are missing the point its understandable how they could reach that conclusion given voting statistics.
yeah i get that
I think the saying is "the old are slow, but they always show"
and they have somewhat of a point. if you look at bernie sanders he had like all of the youth vote but none of the older vote and then eventually lost by a landslide in the states that mattered.
heâll do better than Trump and thatâs all that matters
also he doesnât openly spread misinformation and fucking say global warming isnât real
that sounds pretty fucking âmeaningfulâ to me
even bernie sanders couldn't get young people to vote and he was inarguably the most popular candidates for that demographic in recent history.
so back to my point, yall should vote. @electrowizard i was wrong and assumed you were abstaining in protest (instead of voting in protest). i think voting in protest is a much more understandable position.
of course I know how it works but even if you know your district will go blue you still shouldnât risk it and also more polling/voting numbers against the gop is a good thing
make it a national holiday, like a legit one where everyone leaves work before 5pm and you might see this type of shit
voting day not being a national holiday is pretty fucked
that shit doesn't fucking matter
people point at the popular vote every fucking election cycle; it's meaningless and may as well be a meme at this point
No, it's because backing actual progressive candidates is against their best interests
and whats so fucked is i think everyone agrees that its fucked but theres like a 0% chance that changes.
oh wait but osiris people can't cook their own meals you done fucked up
You should read into this a bit more. He had amazing youth turnout up until Super Tuesday. Then there were all the fake polls published the week before and the massive, orchestrated dropout of all candidates except for the one that could leech votes from him. And then coronavirus started and the fucking DNC ghouls refused to allow states to move their primaries initially
im aware of the DNC shenanigans but i think blaming it entirely on that is a bit of a cop out. he bet hard on groups that voted for him in 2016 in michian and those same groups didn't vote for him again likely cuz they just hated hillary more than they liked him.
If he had a wider appeal the candidate dropout wouldn't affect him so prominently. if the voterbase of every candidate except one will have almost 0 turnover to you, then you probably don't have a broad enough appeal to win an election.
he did well early on when the centrist voterbase was split and almost every left wing democrat was voting for him but as soon as the centrist voterbase wasn't split he lost by a landslide.
all that says to me is that in a general election he probably would have lost even worse as much as I dont like to admit it.
This is really bad reasoning, because primary turnout is way different than general turnout. And because shitloads of those who he appeals to can't vote in the primaries
Yeah, not at all. In the weeks leading up to 2016, he was beating Trump by like 8 points still.
i guess i should be clear im trying to argue for why the democratic establishment would think biden was the better pick.
personally i think bernie would do better v trump because i think bernie
- isn't an obvious corrupt establishment politician
- could actually respond to trump well in debates/while campaigning
- appeals to a lot of non democrats
which is more important to me in a general election than primary turn out.
sorry i posted my next post a lil too late there cuz mobile but yea i agree with you here
after i typed this and then thought about it a bit more and was like 'wtf am i saying'
