If you're passionate about your viewpoints and legitimately care about climate change, etc. what do you suggest one should do other than voting and trying to convince other people to support your views? If you're not in a position of power, that's pretty much the extent of your impact. The alternative is just to be apathetic and not care
ya thats underrated probs
local political involvement definitely underrated
in ideal visions ive had, deemphasizing federal/state level political participation and emphasizing city/county level is definitely a step in the right direction
much mroe useful than in the general election.
but the 'non voting crowd' usually doesn't vote there either.
i believe in organizing revolution but im not ready to take the plunge
I think political apathy is extremely dangerous, and I hope it never, ever becomes the norm.
That's hardly a practical venture for most people
apathy isnt quite the right word so much as pessimism and learned helplessness and "if i cant find a better way than this its not worth it"
but i mean yea im sure it looks equally bad to yall who arent in the same mindset
yeah i dont think adequately addressing climate change and the major problems of the world / american political system can be done through practical ventures
i understand if that comes off as apathy and seems functionally equivalent
practical = everybody staying comfortable?
everybody staying comfortable is the problem
Iaafr our here hatching revolution with the Finns
might as well get started writing some manifestos and preparing speeches if it ever does get to that level of harness-able unrest and discomfort though
you either believe one of three things
that the american political system can improve to a fixable level via its own systems
that its going to stay rotten for a significant amount of time because the systems broken but people are comfortable enough to tolerate it for quite awhile longer
or that its going to collapse somewhat soon and a revolution will bring about the next iteration of the american republic
am i dumb or insane for believing its the second and third that are much more likely than the first? maybe. gl convincing me otherwise though.
yeah I can understand where you're coming from, still seems weird to knock people for not having the same mindset as you
seems like a thing best kept to yourself
maybe i should stop i just
like i said, it triggers me when people get self righteous about voting
i get ur point too tho
iafr if u live in a solid blue state then yeah voting doesnt rly matter
if u live in a contested state then voting, volunteering, canvassing, all are huge to help
even if ur in a solid blue state u can travel and still do all those things
that being said im not lifting a finger to help biden
also biden not being a warmonger when he was the biggest proponent of the iraq war (on the dem side) and wrote/tried to pass the patriot act in the nineties.
like im fucking dying here lmfao holy shit lib brain is something else.
here's ur boy
Someone like Biden seems to be the best choice to beat trump though, takes a good portion of moderate right wingers and every leftist will still vote for him
