FFS. This is cute and all, but imma give it to you straight. I hope you read everything I have to say, just as I’ve read ur entire pathetic cringeworthy excuse of a comedic attempt.

tbh, I really wanted this game to do well, and i really wanted to play this game, but it has been released in a state that I personally will never support.

Why will I not personally support this game?

I think I can say on behalf of most of the “toxic” members of this subreddit that we view this game as a PC game first, not a physical TCG a la MTG. As such, the business model for this game is judged by precedent of other PC games before it. This game has a $20 USD entry fee. With that $20 down-payment, we are greeted by 4 game modes, 2 locked behind paywall (would have been 3 if it weren’t for community outcry, but hey, delusional fucks in this subreddit were still trying to cling onto $1/casual draft). While people play games for fun, people also play games to win, and as such, many of us like to play in competitive modes. It’s complete bullshit to have competitive modes locked behind a pay wall each time you play. I have NEVER seen a mainstream game do any of this shit EVER. The way Valve has locked core modes, which would have been free in ANY other online PC game, regardless of whether they’re a TCG, FPS, or whatever, is an aberration, is anti-consumer, and is greedy. IN ADDITION, they continue to ask for more money in the form of packs.

And to diffuse the bullshit about how cards in this game are an investment to recoup the cost, let me remind you that all you will EVER get back are Steam Funds. Not cash. Not credit. STEAM FUNDS. That is a total bullshit excuse for an investment, and if I were to invest money, I’d have a hundred other better places to put my money. The market is great. It’s great to be able to buy cards directly. But the way the entire economy is set up is so that Valve can have its cake and eat it. The player gets absolutely nothing tangible, unless it is willing to pay money to Valve.

Upfront fee just to play the game? Check.

Ensure that cards can only be obtained through money? Check.

Ensure that competitive modes can only be accessed by either buying tickets, or buying cards to recycle? Check. (and I am FUCKING TIRED of hearing that expert mode =/= ranked, coz it’s just weasel words at this point. Competitive players that want to play ranked will gravitate towards expert mode as it is the most competitive.)

Ensure that everything must be traded within the Steam ecosystem via Steam Funds, thereby ensuring Valve takes a cut out of every transaction? Check.

Players can’t trade directly with each other like with any other Trading Card Game? Check

Notice how the player gets NOTHING out of their time? What’s that? Enjoyment? Well I enjoy card games, but I think I’ll play some other card game that at least give me the option to earn shit for free, such as every other online card game. I think I’ll also play one of those games that I can pay just one upfront fee and I can have access to all the content. Like… pretty much every other game in existence.

The market was a great idea. But the amount of good that it offers does not outweigh, nor does it justify, the sheer amount of other bullshit and greed that this game was built around.

I think many of the “negative”, “toxic”, or even “jaded” users on this sub would agree that unless this game changes its business model, it deserves to die for this alone.

But you know what we’re met with when us fans (YES. we are fans of the game, believe it or not) voice these opinions? Some bullshit about “grinding gold”, “predatory psychological dopamine trap”, “relief that Artifact so guilt free”, or some other delusion you come up with to bullshit yourself that this business model (NOT game) is worth the premium price, plus cards.

And notice NOT ONCE did I mention I had any issue with the actual game itself . My issue is how GREEDY this game is. Meanwhile, you deluded fucks are still defending Shitty Stock Market Beta v0.72, with some of you even arguing to INCREASE costs of things like tickets. WHAT THE FUCK!!?!?!?

Maybe there are balance issues. Maybe it’s hard to watch. Maybe the games take too long. But you know what? If Valve wasn’t so fucking greedy, maybe I’d have a go and play this game. Because as good as this game could be, it’s simply not good enough for me to pay the sheer amount that Valve is asking. (and FUCK their pauper mode. it’s just a slap in the face to ask for another $20 or whatever it is, after I’ve already paid $20.)

So what are us “toxic” fans waiting for? I’ll tell you that I am personally waiting for the player count to hit rock bottom so that Valve understands that this business model will not be supported by the online player base. I personally take glee every time I see the player count drop, or someone complains of queue times, coz it means that people are voting with their wallets, and are not allowing formerly great companies to hide behind their reputations whilst they peddle their greed and bullshit.

Us “toxic” fans are pro-consumer, not inherently anti-artifact. But Artifact has such an anti-consumer business model and reputation. It’s a great game, but its business model makes it deserve every fucking bit of criticism (AND “HATE”) it gets.

And if “fans” like yourself calm ur tits, take a step back from ur circlejerk and think about how all this started, you’ll remember that as Artifact’s closed beta moved to open beta, people were bitching about how much this game would cost. (Your beloved free draft that you now use to brag about how “affordable” this game is was thanks to us whiners, while the rest were trying to keep their precious paygates.) And that is objectively the biggest criticism. Not progression (unless it solves cost), not balance (an issue, but not the biggest), but fucking cost. And no matter how many times you bring up pauper’s mode, compare it to heartstone or IRL MTG, nothing will make the $20 price tag, the $2 packs, and the abominable tickets disappear.

Once the business model changes drastically, maybe I’ll hop in. And I would say many others would as well, or at least dip their toes in.

So as a “hater” speaking to a so-called “fan”, my suggestion is that you should start acknowledging the issues, and even join in the “hate”. Coz shouting down the issues does not help the game. You don’t need to give solutions, but ffs ACKNOWLEDGE that there are issues with the game.

edit: if any of you think you have some genius rebuttals as you downvote me, plz feel free to reply, or PM ur discord. i’d LOVE to hear what you’ve got to say. I really do. coz unlike you, I can actually listen to differing views without trying to circlejerk about “trolls” and “haters”

Cards will crash

Luckily there's a sellback but they are still adding the progression rewards which will tank prices over time

In terms of actual gameplay this is good

Unfortunately my drow is now totally out of place in the tournament draft

Still a very strong card but I guess a little less effective/ harder to use

Buyback’s pretty fuckin low

It’s kind of interesting because if the game gains popularity the cards might go back up again

but then you have to consider that the more players there are, the more the progression system gets utilized and the prices go down

In summary things are looking bad for Axecoin.

How about this possibility: prices go way up after the buyback because everyone sold their axe without realizing he’s still a good card

Those cards exited the market making axe and drow rarer than other rares

Yep I’m staying in guys this is nerf is good for Axecoin

They might get more players and get the money back from whales buying cosmetetics.

someone rec me a decent deck to learn artifact with plz

dont care about price so long as its not stupid expensive

they have pre-made decks that are relatively decent in the main event called ‘call-to-arms’ and you can use those. they make you play two tutorial matches and it’s enough to sorta give you an idea and then you can just play bots honestly. you can pick which deck the bots use too

Game's 100% dead if they're announcing basically "we're working on it and need some time" after this much time

ye quite a funny announcement to follow their other "please be patient with us"

the ultimate card game is finally coming guys. designed by reynad, you know it'll be purely skill based with minimal rng
