Also a lot of his humor came from being part of some inside joke or rulebreaking - it came from the fact that it was at others' expense
For example I don't think you actually found it funny when he stole your account and posted that you were quitting the mafia subforum
Yeah I'm not basing it on the type of humor he went for on the site, but more on the fact that he was a good writer
In retrospect we an see it was one of the greatest jokes of all time.

I didn't appreciate my account getting stolen but the post was pretty funny

btw sdad i think u r right the most mad i have ever been on this forum (somewhat miffed) was when i was talking about something i actually knew about (game theory) 
i have not yet reached enlightenment. i must meditate more on the irrelevancy of others and their opinions.
maybe this is how ewiz feels all the time. it must suck, talking about things you think you understand.

tho hearing ewiz's takes on game theory dropped my estimation of the average coherency of his ideas by like 30%, although it is difficult to communicate why that is the case to other people without going technical. maybe this is also how ewiz feels all the time when talking to me. such symmetry!
Now imagine the conversation goes on for about 6 years and you have a series of interactions like that
intermingled with mental breakdowns where he will misinterpret something on the website, feel someone has wronged him, and lead a straight up crusade/harassment campaign filled with all sorts of vile insults usually ending with either him or the other person leaving the site
and then rinse and repeat several times over the course of 6 years and you have my (apparently objectionable/contrarian) opinion of him
it seems he has some supporters though. why do they support him? how do i become better at building a cult of personality?

i dont know if this model is accurate. i think the elite believe what is profitable to believe, roughly corresponding to what trickles up from the non-elite. there is the opposite effect where the elite affect the minds of the non-elite through media and such, but i believe it a subordinate effect. i think the media in america roughly just tells you what you want to hear.
