They are extremely tuned into this shit. They just believe they're in the right and should face no consequences
Correct
I think, on its own, you're right. But in the context of previous posts hogs made in this thread, it's definitely something where he's acknowledging it's awful and making a joke to try to cope with/process what's been happening.
Personally, I think the joke is pretty funny and also holds pretty true. Mass unrest over State actors going nuts being met with State brutality and then strikingly similar actions being taken, just with a bike instead of a tank
fuck the police
fuck
fuck
fuck the police
fuck the legal system that purposefully doesnt prosecute them too
Love that SCOTUS created qualified immunity, not legislation, but refuses to hear cases challenging it
You just said itās a throwaway comment and my whole stance was that to me itās shitty hyperbole.
So youāre repeating why Iāve said it and saying you donāt agree?
I appreciate this post.
i dont think your perspective particularly reflects how anybody would interpret that throwaway comment unless specifically already wanting to criticize it
almost any comparison can be picked apart but theres nothing actually inherently trivializing about a trivial comparison unless you take it as more serious and deep than intended
And I think a lot of you just want to excuse small comments because you want to make them and because they are in fact reflective of inconsiderate perspectives or are hurtful in general.
If you want to say, āsometimes you just make crude jokes.ā then own it. And if someone is calling it out as trivializing a serious issue - trying to point a finger at them for being critical is pretty stupid in my opinion. Unless youāre just immediately saying āyo itās a jokeā. Getting bent over it and needing me to explain how I could possibly say what Iām saying kinda says something about where itās coming from, to me. Like either itās just being taken really personal, by multiple people (this is highly possibly tbh), or yāall want to defend saying things and having 0 negative impact or reaction to them.
You can have good intentions and do hurtful shit. Itās how you work that out, and what you do with the knowledge that it might be happening, that matters.
he got frog marched away by plainclothes security forces and was probably tortured and killed after being detained
get it right
thereās video evidence of him being marched away and arrested. and given how many activists were being disappeared by the CCP he is most likely either dead or still rotting in a cell to this day
Mostly, my point was that tank man being an icon kind of cuts away from the Tiananmen Square protests especially when you consider that the real crimes happened outside of Tiananmen Square, for the most part, and this televised footage took a lot of focus off of the actual violent force that ripped through civilians. It didnāt even happen that long ago, man.
Itās just symbolic, standing up to tyranny and all.
Also thereās a pretty big chance he died if you watch the part of the video I sent to slowdive
Also the people who were allowed to āevacuate the squareā were slaughtered, then their bodies were burned and taken away in busses and pushed into the gutters. But you are correct that the people fighting back and clashing were in the streets. thatās where the people were fighting the PLA. The ones in the square were peaceful right until the end, when they were massacred. Many didnāt even know what was happening elsewhere.
The people in the streets were mostly shot with rifles and crushed by armored vehicles and tanks, many were crushed by tanks in fact which is why the tank man pic is symbolic, even though he himself wasnāt crushed so many others were.
If you want to learn more the video I linked is by far the best Iāve ever seen on the subject. Explains the whole thing very well.
