im not trying to take away anybodies guns, its not a problem you can solve right away. its more about more and mor and more regulations, and changing which types of guns can be bought to be less and less deadly over time
and the police would have to be lock step with their de-escalation of which guns they use, purchas, etc. and even in this idealistic fantasy it would probably take 100 years to reach a good place
i’d probably be in favour of a govt, program that paid people more than the value of their guns for turning them in, too. give people a financial incentive. it would be optional.
but this is all assuming the police are de-militarizing rapidly, and training their officers in the european way of pointing a gun at somebody being the last fucking thing you ever do, not a knee jerk reaction. a big part of the problem with American police is theyre too fucking stupid, they cant think about how to handle a situation correctly, they cant think about why somebody may be doing something, they just start yelling and pointing guns. they need to be taught to be far better at communcating with people in dagerous situatuons, the way hostage negotiators do. if european cops can do it, i’d like to believe american cops can too. id like to believe that, idk if i really do.
thats my tae on it. its like climate change it cannot be solved right away but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try
Plasma posts got flagged and his posts reacted with "bait" emoji for saying Floyd died of a heart attack which started before he was even on the ground - as evidenced by the transcripts
I would wager none of the people responding to him at that time had even read the transcripts.
what i gathered from the transcripts was that the cops working this situation didn't have time to spare thinking about the person they were handling. that's frightening. they knew he was elevated and his behavior was erratic/commented on him appearing to be influenced by drugs. it's still a complete lack of regard for the life of their "suspect".
Sorry to break it to you but federal officers don't deserve to be blinded by anarchists with lasers just like civil rights protesters don't deserve to be blinded by police with tear gas
If they want to shoot rubber bullets directly at our heads and lob flashbangs and tear gas canisters at us, we're sure as shit going to take every measure to make sure they miss as much as possible.
