Just finished reading the whole thing. A hard read, but at least I can appreciate the note it’s left on in the epilogue. Seems people have reflected on this and recognized it was wrong, the issues with DA/prosecutors/grand juries are addressed, and though it all still happens it hopefully wouldn’t happen exactly this way again.
I pray to god the next woman i get emotionally invested in doesn’t have one of these experiences hidden in a deep dark place because it is just devastating to deal with this stuff and I dont think my perception of the world could take the beating of having to see another person I cared about suffer silently through it
Statistically it’s supposed to be like only 3 in 5 (still bad) which means I definitely have a mathematical chance here
But yeah it’s absolutely devastating to realize that so many of the people you care about have these experiences stuffed down somewhere underneath all the daily stuff and if you just got a little closer to them you might find out a bunch of shit that makes you hate the world and the people in it. I get pretty angry thinking about this stuff at times

Who gives a fuck about legal justice that’s never coming. I understand it’s an absolutely awful response but I dont think I would be able to live with that and just keep my head down for the rest of my life like those people

I think I just have to make friends and actually talk to people and see that the world is not full of rapists and rape victims
But it certainly feels that way sometimes
Do you guys ever think: We have a bunch of weird dudes on this website. Statistically, one might be a rapist. Maybe we should ask around and question each person: Are you 100% sure that you have never raped anyone. I should start a thread for this

The point isn’t the number the point is that any one particular person could have done that - and you know these people and thus could, like, talk to them about it
I am not going to single any one person out because I think it’s cruel and crosses a line
However
Just imagine you’re talking to one of these guys and he’s like “Yeah I got super drunk and made a mistake”
Hinting that there is 1 rapist on the site with a post implied that the stats expert poster in question was the sites resident rapist
It was a weird joke
I dont even know what the reasoning is

I’ve never raped because I’ve never willingly have had sex on account of my extreme distaste of being touched by others. Have I assaulted? I scared a girl once by telling her my handsy friend was rapey
Which I regret because yeah that is technically assault

But that instance was so weird it wouldn’t run foul of any sort of law
