Mafia Rules Draft

I know this has already been mentioned, but I think the role PM should always be included in the setup text. If there's any variability in the message that text should also be present somewhere in the setup (variable items/roles/night actions). Even if posting the whole pm is prevented, often questions will be asked about its contents. Answering any questions about the role pm that weren't included in the setup can be somewhat game-breaking and instantly clear people.

yep

a topic for a Host Guidelines section:
-if u dont post the vanilla pm VTs can use it to clear themselves
-if you give VT pms individual flavor it can backfire when people use it to find non-VTs in the thread

I agree. I always include VT role pm in the first post when I host.

This doesn’t work in closed/semi-closed setups. There needs to be a rule about PMs

Yeah, that’s true

In closed setups it’s often even part of the game to report your role and lore (or fake a role and lore to fool town) in order to towntell

Though I suppose usually in those setups the VT doesn’t have unique lore and the VT PM could easily be posted in the OP

Reporting your role seems fine. The lore clearing has always bugged me

I didn’t diagree with this. But I think there are other problems with pms other than copy and pasting them into the game thread. You’re right about closed setups though.

I just don’t find it fun at all to win via pm details in an open setup if the player didn’t make a mistake.

I think the VT is realistically the only one who needs to be said. If other confirmed roles are there it’s nice to have. Generally town power roles are unique.

It’s vts that could use it to find each other or make it obvious to spot a fake mafia.

I remember the anime game where the vt pm said “Your only powers are your vote and your cuteness.”

Then someone said “Don’t lynch me. I’m too cute to die.” Game ruined.

Yup

I like the rules. Nice and simple. Too many rules and people will not read it all. Also I like how they are separated into categories. The only other suggestion I have is that lynch votes should not use nicknames. First, to avoid confusion for newer players, and second, in case we ever get an automated StoveBot™ working.

id imagine a lynch bot should take nicknames into account. sometimes people have problematic usernames to type (preklaze sdad stands out in my mind), other people have nicknames that are just shortened names (like you are kkat, even new players shouldnt miss that lol), sometimes people have different names than they used to (like ewiz)

ideally youd be able to see the digested bot stream somewhere. like maybe the bot’ll post somewhere thats silenced for everyone when it handles a command to help with that. better than leaving features out imo

A lynch bot should have a voter action panel where you click the button and aren’t typing a person’s username in the thread at all to lynch them

uh

What do YOU want?

I think we are in a good spot with the rules. i want to add in the name thing KrazyKat added. I think that should be apart of the player etiquette. Possibly only accept lynch votes if they use the forum name. possibly use lynch @poster ? thoughts?

You just can’t force users to use names they’re not used to - I don’t think it can work.

(Granted this is mostly the fault of people choosing names like “Wintermute” but that doesn’t matter now)

-person who has had about 16 names all of which were not his and often belonged to someone else
