The progressive dilemma is that as you win more and more battles and progressivism becomes acceptable to the mainstream public, the people who style themselves "true progressives" (make it part of their identity) feel the need to adapt more outlandish views in order to maintain their image of themselves as crusaders for progressive justice. They need something to fight for
So the left gets pushed out onto these shaky limbs where the things they're fighting for are completely indefensible (debt relief for blxck womyn journalists, remove the 'o' from 'latino,' men can actually get pregnant) as all the reasonable progressive battles have been won. They start seeing the polls and realizing they can never get elected on any of this shit. So to be able to retread the progressive battles of 2 generations ago is a great gift. You would much rather fight the next election on Women's Right to Abortion rather than Trans Black Wxomyn's Right to Reparations. It starts to look like the Dems have a shot again
