That's how I formed the opinions I have today and that's what is missing from your worldview now - actual context from actual people. Your example of "gay person I know" is some guy who listens to NPR from when you were a little kid (the guy probably wasn't even gay, a lot of different types of people used to listen to NPR back then, it wasn't as bad then as it is today)

I'm describing a fairly common behavior of gay men (as a general group). If you consider that vulgar/indecent, it is basically the same as saying to be gay is vulgar/indecent. This is basically internalized homophobia - I am going to have a talk with the admin ■■■ (a gay guy) about whether this sort of thing should be acceptable in this thread

We are making observations about a group and generalizing them to the gay guys/NPR listeners you knew in your childhood. You made it unnecessarily personal/took it very personally, probably as a defense/distraction because you were losing the argument
I would never say that as it's a completely abnormal behavior for a woman. However, for gay guys (as a general group) it would be just another Sunday afternoon
