i’ve actually spent a lot of time learning about Russia from the first Tsar until now, I learn Russian on duolingo sometimes, I know enough about it to have an opinion

every terrible leader in history had a bunch of people who liked them
in the early and mid 2000s Russia had something resembling a democracy, look at where they are today
a pariah state with no freedoms of any kind and an autocrat dictator who robs the country blind with his rich friends
